Double Bass

I bought a half-carved double bass with cutaway, and paid extra to have an adjustable bridge installed. The bass sounds fine and I really like it, especially for the price! The only bad thing is the original strings - they are crap and need to be changed. That was expected though, and I already budgeted for a set of spirocores when I ordered.

There are however three minor flaws that made me lower the score from 5 stars:

1. There is a 25 cm scratch on the front of the instrument. I treat my instruments with great care, so it is really a pity someone mishandled it already in the store. This will probably still be the only scratch the insterument has 20 years from now. Minus 1 point.

2. The fingerboard has a small bump under the G string, near the octave. Playing the octave G is fiddly, because it's on the border of the bump, and the F# below it buzzes. I will have to file away this bump carefully. Not a disaster, but still cause to deduct 1/2 point.

3. The lowest setting on the adjustable bridge is still about 2mm higher than I'd like it, making the adjustability useless. I will need to file off a bit on the top and make new string grooves to get the adjustability I wanted. Not a big deal, but I dock 1/2 point for the inconvenience.

The last two flaws are relatively easy to fix, but gedo musik claims to do setup on their instruments, so I think it should already have been done.

All in all, I still love my bass, and the price was good, so I wouldn't scare away others from buying from gedo. Just don't expect perfection!
